How To Spot Biggest Applicant Lies

Over the last few years we have seen a significant rise in unemployment rates nationwide, some of the highest in the last few decades actually. To some recruiters this is a dream come true due to the overflow of applicants that they now have, but to the true Talent Scouts this is a complete nightmare. Why? Because now it is that much more difficult to find that top 1%. I have always been a firm believer that a resume is a limited representation of the candidate. So if this is indeed the case, what does this say about them when the majority of the information in their resume is fabricated and/or inaccurate?

Success Principle Turning a Deaf Ear to Nay Sayers

In life, we often encounter nay sayers and doubters. They might not believe in your dream or your ability. Sometimes your friends and family hold you back, out of their concerns for you. Oftentimes, they tell you it can't be done, based on their own fears, doubts, and limiting beliefs. Regardless of their intention, the problem is, if you buy into what they say, you might give up your goals and dreams altogether. My own experiences proved the point.

Most of the Time Talent's Not Enough

You're a talented writer, designer, speaker, consultant, coach, salesperson, but doors aren't flying open for you. Why not? Talent, I'm afraid, is assumed - a lot of people have talent. It's the price to get into the game. Talent, married with creativity, however, is how you get out of the cheap seats. (In fact, creativity will allow you to get places with lesser talent than others - oops, potential self indictment)

It Takes A Winner To Become A Champion

We’ve all heard “Champions are not born; they are made.” This is true for YOU were not born a champion; you were born to win.Research now shows that the talent; or lack of natural talent we were born with is irrelevant to great success. Moreover, scientific experts’ findings, across many fields, conclude that talent goes beyond intelligence or personal traits. The truth of the matter is that the same skills that make Tiger Woods great are what can make you a champion.

"Doing What Comes Naturally"

| One of the key skills of managers is to spot talent and nurture it. Not just in the odd person who comes along with obvious talent, but in those who are unaware of their talents or those who keep them hidden. America’s Got Talent?

| If you have been watching NBC on Monday nights recently you may have seen the show “America’s Got Talent”. It doesn’t specify what kind of talent America’s got – just that we have it. Tonight we had examples of talent from midget break dancers, a Frank Sinatra wanna-be, and a group of eleven year old dancing girls. I guess they define “talent” quite loosely on this show.
Which brings me to the following question: just how do you define talent? Personally, I have been known to strum the banjo, but does that kind of talent prepare anyone to ascend the management ladder in today’s corporate America? I think not.

Is Your Light Under a Bushel?

Is the world seeing your strongest talents now, or will we have to wait until you are dead to recognize your best work? I know we all want to be part of something that goes beyond our own lives, but it's also reasonable to want to be part of something great today. This is not about being modest; it's about living a double life; one in which your daily work has no connection to your passion. Where you have to hide your true talent in order to "make a living." Do you have a secret talent that you're not sharing?

Upgrading Performance Closes More Sales: Lessons learned from 14 year old hockey players

| Performing at your highest level is difficult to do over and over again. It’s not your talent that fluctuates. You may alter and upgrade your game plan and knowledge level, but at the end of the day true high-level performance seems to be driven by something other than talent alone. I believe winning at the highest level, closing the biggest or the most sales, is based on the energy you bring – with all other factors being reasonably similar.

The Myth of the Born Leader

The final level of mastery is to make it look natural. That's a key reason so many people believe achievement comes from winning the gene pool - either you're born with it or you're not. A tiny number of athletes, performers, artists, musicians, or leaders succeed without really trying. But the sad reverse is often even more true. We all know people with tremendous natural talent who do very little with it. More common are ordinary people with average talent who take it to extraordinary levels.
