Inspiration for troubled times
| |
| In troubled times we all need some inspiration to lift us out of the hole we may find ourselves in and give us hope for the future. Words of inspiration shine a light in the dark corners of our mind and dissipate the fearsome shapes and shadows our imaginings have created. |

Lesson #5: Do Well by Doing Good
| |
| “He is ill clothed that is bare of virtue,” wrote Franklin. “A good conscience is a continual Christmas.” Despite being wealthy enough to retire comfortably by the age of 42, Franklin continued to pursue civic projects and carry out benevolent acts throughout the rest of his life. He staunchly believed that the good life was achievable in direct proportion to one’s contribution to society and thus, from universities to hospitals to firehouses, Franklin dedicated his resources to giving back. |

Keeping the Love Alive: Maintaining Good Feelings in Any Kind of Relationship (Part 1 of 2)
| |
| In general, our culture confuses sacrifice with love, teaching us the virtue of loving others more than ourselves. So we attempt to demonstrate or prove love with sacrifice, and we get upset or feel unloved if others won't sacrifice for us. Yet sacrifice is a wheel that crushes everyone who gets on it. |

How Being A Mom Has Helped Me in Business
| |
| For most women, becoming a mother is a turning point in their career. It’s a time in one’s life that’s rife with challenges, frustrations, and uncertainties, but it’s also when many of life’s most rewarding achievements and miraculous moments occur. What many new moms figure out rather quickly is that the skills that they use every day while taking care of children are also very applicable in succeeding in business. Nurturing a needy newborn isn’t all that different from managing a high-maintenance client, and trying to juggle chores and kids can be strikingly similar to the multi-tasking required to manage a large list of prospects. Here are just a few of the skills that are fine-tuned and mastered the minute you take that leap into motherhood.

The Law of being left behind
| |
| The Law of being left behind, suggests that if someone else buys a products or service, it must be valuable enough to buy for ourselves. This belief transforms into a subconscious need to acquire the product or service, simply because someone else has it. And when you get a group of likeminded people together in a buying environment, all it ever takes is one person to buy to set 'The Law of being left behind' in motion. The converse is also true, if not one person puts their hand up to buy - no one else in the group will buy. Why? There is no leader, the pack isn't moving in any particular direction, therefore there is no need to move - the safest move is no move at all. |

Please Stop Calling it Coaching!
| |
| Leading, managing, teaching, and mentoring are all important but lets please not confuse them with coaching. In these times of great upheaval we need real business leaders. These leaders need all of the coaching we can provide them. Let's not lose the moment and the power of what's possible by watering down the practice of authentic coaching. |

Creativity is a Powerful Way of Thinking and Being
| |
| I often hear people say, "I’m not a creative person!" In truth, as humans each of us is inherently creative by virtue of being part of Nature - the essence of creativity itself.
I believe to be creative means to use what comes naturally to you with the responsibility to share that gift with the world. Uncovering your unique gift and learning how to tap into your creative energy are defining steps that allow for the release of ideas and desires that further enhance your ability to create, resulting in the potential of living a fulfilling and meaningful life. Understanding the potential of your unique creativity, and then actively and consciously creating leads to greater success in manifesting the results you want for your life. If we are all naturally creative as human beings, what holds us back?

Organic SEO is not a Vending Machine
| |
| For some reason, some clients tend to look at Organic SEO like a vending machine. Almost as if they want to put their money in a slot and instantly want the prize. Organic SEO depends on the climate of the competition, the industry and variables such as the content on your pages, if your site is new, if your website has links or if it is virtually unknown. The list of potential obstacles that an optimization specialist has to overcome oftentimes seems insurmountable in comparison to the expectations of a client.

Heed the Dalai Lama -- and Fortune Magazine
| |
| The Dalai Lama says:
“One can be deceived by three types of laziness:
the laziness of indolence, which is the wish to procrastinate;
the laziness of inferiority, which is doubting your capabilities;
and the laziness that is attached to negative actions, or putting great effort into non-virtue.”
I really like this quote because it drives home an important point about personal responsibility and becoming an outstanding performer. The Dalai Lama doesn’t let us off the hook by saying, “I didn’t think I could do it.” Instead, he says that doubting our abilities is a form of laziness. That’s some tough love!

Keeping up with the Joneses
| |
| As you may know, when I am not pursuing my passion of speaking, writing books, and developing these columns each week, I am in the television business. It is important for you to understand how the media and big business views you. You, by virtue of the fact that you are breathing, are lovingly known as "a consumer." Consumers, in the minds of media and big business, exist for the sole and singular purpose of buying goods and services. Whether you buy the appropriate goods and services is not nearly as important-in their minds-as how much and how often you buy.

| |

His book, The Art of Virtue (edited by George Rogers), is an inspiring account of Franklin's life and an instructive guide to his improvement process and personal effective system. Franklin once said, "If you empty your purse in your head, no one can take it away from you. An investment in knowledge always pays the best interest." |
