While federal legislation on small employers remains complex and burdensome across the country, overbearing employment and labor laws in California are helping it maintain its reputation as the one of the most litigious states in the Union. Recent court cases highlight the complexity and exposure of labor laws in California, and the lengths to which employers must go to be informed and protected.

Benefits to Transport and the Environment of Flexible Working
We have all been there, trying to get to work during rush hour. A journey that should only take 10-15 minutes under normal circumstances takes an hour or more due to the increasing traffic on roads. This means staff are often ‘stressed-out’ by the time they reach their workplace.

The Secret To Internet Marketing Success
The Secret to Internet Marketing Success is not surfing for the next big thing. It is about finding what works and sticking to a focused plan of action. It's nothing sexy, nothing you can't do. It's about the 100 hour and 500 hour rule.

Keeping Business Tax Records
The period of time a business must keep records and the types of records required varies according to the statutory requirements of the particular government or agency involved. The five main federal agencies are: Internal Revenue Service, US Department of Labor, Wage and Hour Division, Immigration and Naturalization, Social Security Administration, and Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. In addition, there may be selective state agencies that have their own particular requirements. However, the tendency is such that the federal agencies usually have more stringent requirements, so we will focus on them.

Minimum wage – good or bad for business?
The questions around the minimum wage are always going to create a heated discussion and in my opinion is just another way for governments and usually socialist style governments to control the economy and turn things in to a nanny state! What is a minimum wage? The minimum wage is the lowest hourly, daily or monthly wage that employers may legally pay to their employees. Minimum wage laws also prevent workers from selling their labour at an amount which is lower than the minimum wage level. Those that defend and advocate a minimum wage say that it increases the standard of living of workers and also reduces poverty.

They Keep Saying The Rich Don't Pay Their Fair Share
These are facts: the top one percent of wage earners in America carry a full 40% of the tax burden. That's only about 1.4 million of us, carrying 40% of the load for the other approximately 300 million. And if the tax rates go back to pre-2001 levels, those 1.4 million who have all that money to invest (and with which to employ vast numbers of other wage earners) will certainly keep that money in their pockets... and that means it'll be sheltered from taxation.

California Labor Law Update: Recent Court Decisions Favor Employers
The State of California is notorious for its liberal, pro-employee court system and complex employment regulations. Labor laws in California typically favor employees, and employers have paid billions in settlements for a range of violations, such as wage and hour infractions, discrimination and wrongful termination. However, several high profile court cases in California recently favored the employer, providing some relief to the constant barrage of employment lawsuits.
