Employee Policies About Blogging & Electronic Communication
Blogs and blogging are a fascinating social phenomenon and employee policies and procedures generally have not kept up. Blogs are similar to on-line bulletin boards. People use blogs as a way of self expression, saying what they think or feel about a topic or an issue, or in response to someone else’s thoughts. Many people have their own personal blog to journal their day or their lives. It is also an interesting phenomenon that people feel more “open” when communicating via email, text or a blog. By this I mean many people use the process of writing as a form of “dear diary” or therapy. They put their deepest thoughts and feelings down without pausing to think or reflect on the impact their words may have on others. They respond instantly, without many of the usual social niceties coming into play.

Sometimes You Have To Blow Your Own Trumpet
Firstly what is the meaning of ‘blow your own trumpet’? Answer: To act in a boastful, self-promoting manner. Don’t you think “blowing your own trumpet” and boasting about yourself, is a bit tricky? Do you find it hard to do? If you do, you are not alone. The vast majority of us do.

Sometimes Unintended Consequences Are A Good Thing
We’re all familiar with the “Law of Unintended Consequences.” My personal favorite is still the plastic whistles that were packaged with Cap’n Crunch cereal back in the ’70s. Blowing the whistle into your phone triggered a connection to AT&T’s long distance dialing AND by-passed their billing system. Free calls! Not exactly what Quaker Oats had in mind. (…and Ma Bell was not pleased.)

How Does Blowing Stuff Up and Crashing Things Change Your Philosophy?
Great discussion of science, creativity, and error with the Mythbusters’ duo in the latest issue of Forbes’s Emerging Tech report (paid subs only). Here is an excerpt on how, after years of blowing stuff up and crashing things, they’ve changed. Answer: Cars and gases.

Whistleblowers are necessary
One wonders at the conditions that apply which impel someone to expose corrupt, illicit, negligent, abusive or exploitative behaviour. This could be government or corporate policies or an individual’s activities. And one wonders at the response to such exposure which is always initially denial and ultimately a very severe and harsh form of retribution against the person who ‘blew the whistle’ which led to the exposure.

How to Overcome the "I Need to Think about it objection
Unfortunately, what many of you have found out is that your prospect actually is saying no - they're just saying it in a way that makes it difficult for you to handle it. Well that will end for you today. By using the scripts below, you'll see if your prospect really does need to think about it, or if he/she is blowing you off.

The Importance of WhistleBlowing
Whistle blowing. While some may view it as “snitching”, others may view it as bravery and a dedication to proper ethics. In this issue of Astronology, we take a look at the importance of whistle blowing, along with the positive and negative benefits from it.

Potential: Are You Using Yours?
Astronomers recently discovered that there are three times as many stars in the universe than was previously thought. Up till now, they have seriously underestimated the number of other suns in other galaxies – and that means there must be many more planets orbiting them where other life forms might exist. Mind blowing! Which got me thinking...where are you seriously underestimating yourself?

Flipping Out About Money
We all have the right to choose any reaction we want when dealing with a tough situation. I suggest giving your highly charged emotions some way to vent. Writing about them, exercising, or whatever your preferred method is for blowing off steam. Then move forward, one step at a time, into a new frame of mind.

The Five Secrets to Working Yourself Happy
It's one thing to be grateful to have a job if we live in a community of increased jobloss and business closures, but when all is said and done, we all deserve to be happy and whistle while we work, whatever it is we do.
