Teachings of the Wii Generation

| Nice post from DailyTech on the democratization of technology, and what we can learn from the surprising success of the Wii game system. It is easy to forget how many people thought the wildly successful Wii was set to fail. |

Insider #149 - Game Demographics
| |
| The blood, gore, adrenalin challenges that were unveiled at E3 and enjoyed at ComicCon are fun to look at, easy to hold but are they really the games people want to plunk down their credit cards to own or rent time with? Seems as though the investors, the players who control the controllers have a different idea of a "good" game than the kids who develop them. While mobs of people play educational, informational, stimulating games our kid huddles in his room and mumbles "The Few, The Proud, The Gamers." If we align the games with the real volume players, consumers we might stimulate more hardware, more bandwidth, more mobile, yes more software sales come the holidays.

Video Games…So Many Options, So Little Time
| |
| The fun and fantasy of the recent E3 conference was breathtaking. It's great to see gaming bouncing back and the console folks doing their darndest to breath new life into their systems -- especially since they haven't done a refresh design for way so many years, you begin to wonder...
It was so cool because we were all ready to see the rebound. But wait a minute isn't it just like WarGames -- a lot of make believe along with some real world reality? Our house has the "standard" console(s). Our house has the "standard" HD TV set(s). Our house doesn't have any 3D content but then the game folks won't have theirs for "a few months." So what else is there? Right! The online gaming world is huge and getting even larger. |

Do We Ignore Half the Market?
| |
| We all know half (or about half) of the world's population is female. Most married or involved males know that they can do anything they want to do as long as "SHE" thinks it's OK. Testosterone works in the boardroom but in the living room, bedroom...forget it!!! If they are "kinda" important in our business lives, why can't we get it right when it comes to offering products? Maybe we just aren't listening...NAW!!!! |

Survey shows Internet users prefer PR to ads
| |
| In my previous article, I wrote that public relations may be better positioned than advertising to weather the current storm of major newspapers in financial trouble some of which are going completely digital.
An interesting survey was released recently, which not only seems to support this point, but provides an interesting perspective into the reading habits of young people. "Ragan’s PR News Daily" noted an ARAnet poll based on polling by Opinion Research Corporation, showing that Internet users prefer PR over advertising. |

Microsoft ads brag that Windows powers cheap PeeCees
| |
| Is it just me or does anyone else think Microsoft needs a new ad firm? First, it was the Bill Gates/Jerry Seinfeld spots (surreally bad and mercifully short-lived), then the “I’m a PC’ campaign (which put most viewers to sleep). Now the Big M has a new ad campaign that basically brags that Windows powers cheap PeeCees. |

aneiPhone, Nintendo Wii show that consumers hunger for new gestural interfaces
| |
| Touch-free gestural interfaces—where the user can control a nearby TV or computer with the “wave of a hand”—will revolutionize the landscape in the “digital living room,” much as the Apple iPhone and Nintendo Wii did in their respective markets, says Jim Spare, CEO of 3-D sensor chip pioneer Canesta. |

Game Entrapment Hard Core Gamers Taking a Back Seat
| |
| It seems so innocent, the way the video game developers suck you in. First it
is an increasingly aggressive game system pricing (cheaper!). Then comes the
rave reviews from "experts" and fun, exciting packaging...packages almost look
wholesome and heroesque don't they? Then you begin the play. Casually for a few
minutes at first. Then what they heck just an hour. Suddenly the sun is coming
up. So you get another game or different version for your portable system or
smartphone (just to stay sharp of course). Before we knew it our wife and daughter
were beating us...regular! It is so humiliating. There goes all of the fun for
another male bastion...sheess !!! |

Mexican Train Should be an Olympic Event in Marketing

| Mexican Train is a great dominoes game that can really teach you about how to market your company online through promoting your business in the right direction and with the marketing strategy. Success is an seemingly easy process, but really how can anybody promote their company, make money, and work from home with a small business? Simple.

Do We Ignore Half the PC/CE Market?
| |
| PC, CE products have typically been designed, manufactured for the male geek. But this stereotype customer is becoming history as women increasingly buy and use the products. To be successful though it requires more than simply making them pink. Female users want more...lot more than we might think. |

Short Game, Long Game, No Game…Gone in 60 Sec.

|
Console Games...Gone in 60 Sec.
| |
| Short game. Long game. No game. Gone in 60 seconds. Expecting too much from consumers can prove to be foolish even in video games. The outcome of the Xbox, PS3, Wii challenge could lead consumers to a less than "obvious" decision. It isn't the power that wows, it's the fun that satisfies. |
