It's very difficult to stay focused when there is so much to do. You have a list, a commitment to doing what is necessary to achieve the organizational goals but there is so much to distract you. You start the morning with good intentions and check the email. You've got your list to follow and then you find that there are things that are very important - it's only 8.00am in the morning and you have already let your daily list slide...

New to the job
This article has been written to assist new-leaders of local government. However, the information is just as useful for anyone who has moved into a management role. Rules and regulations change from state to state and country to country but one thing doesn't change: you have to know how to fit-in with your new group and how to manage constituents or employees.

One small step for you: One giant leap for your Organization
Times are tough in the business world; very tough in some countries. Regular reports indicate that this is the worst Global Financial Crisis we’ve experienced since WW11. It has made leaders stop and rethink the way they have been doing things. It has made them reevaluate their systems and processes in order to ascertain just how successful they really are. Performance Development Programs (PDP’s) are one way that your organization can improve workplace productivity. Implementing new systems and processes is laborious at first; however setting up and using PDP’s is essential if you are serious about increasing business productivity. They don’t have to be complicated, in fact the simpler the better. When done properly they are a valuable resource for not only you but for your employees as well.

You need one, I need one: we all need a break
In the current economic climate the mantra is to work harder and harder. This is a global phenomenon and we are told it regularly. There is no time for a break; you just have to keep pushing yourself. Everyone else is doing it - so of course you must follow suit. It's expected that this behavior will impact on productivity in all the right ways and that the organisation will go from strength-to-strength. Those in leadership are not immune from this pressure. It is not only difficult to continue to work harder and harder, it is impossible because there comes a point when the bone has no more meat on it. While sustainable for awhile, over time issues start to emerge. Pressured, exhausted leaders can experience a loss of confidence, self esteem, lack of clarity and mental and/or physical health issues can appear...

6 Essential Steps to Career Breakthrough: Navigating Through Change Successfully
There are so many people today in dramatic career and life transition, and also thousands of coaches and consultants offering help. I’ve discovered, however, that recommending simple, straightforward tactics and strategies does not work unless there has been a true breakthrough in the individual’s thinking and behavior that allows them to become unstuck, and to embrace new possibilities where constraints and limitations were seen before. What do you need to do to create your own breakthrough, and make your goals and visions in life and work a reality? Here are 6 essential steps to breakthrough:

Can You Make a Good Living Being a Life Coach?
Running a coaching and consulting company dedicated to helping women achieve breakthrough in their lives and work, I meet thousands of folks each year who want to reinvent, many of whom are considering launching a coaching or consulting practice, or other small business of their own. They long to transition into coaching for solid reasons, and many come with great, top-level experience. This article will explain some points to consider if you are contemplating a career move to becoming a life coach.

Getting Support in Times of Change
As a coach and a psychotherapist, I’ve worked with hundreds of people each year who are going through dramatic change of some kind or another, and are in need of support from their families, friends, colleagues and others. We often discuss what healthy support is, and how it feels when we receive support that gives us the strength and confidence to persevere. What does helpful support look like?

Has Your Wake-Up Call Arrived?
A wake-up call is a resounding signal received that change is necessary in your life. Often we get this type of call when a crisis or deeply challenging situation has emerged. A wake-up call is a resounding signal received that change is necessary in your life. Often we get this type of call when a crisis or deeply challenging situation has emerged. Clients ask me, "What is crisis in our lives? How can we tell we're heading into crisis, versus simply going through a really bad patch?" What are the signs of "breakdown," as I tend to call it?

Naming and Claiming Your True Niche
In overcoming many challenges in finding my true niche, I am now focused on helping others do the same. Throughout these many years, I’ve observed what it takes shine in your chosen area – how to be one of the best in your selected niche, and be confident enough to market yourself powerfully and rise above the competition.

Taking Back Power Back Tips For Restoring Balance and Focus
Since my book published this Fall, I've been inundated by activity around launching it, publicizing it, and speaking about it. I enjoy much of this activity, as it involves marketing and promotion, which I'm comfortable with (it was my professional specialization in my corporate life, and also it fits my "socializer" personality). I also believe in the book's messages, so it's a joy to speak about it. But what I didn't realize was that, day by day, hour by hour, I began to feel less and less powerful, and more and more focused on "outer" events and accomplishments, and things beyond my control, rather than inward milestones.

Today’s Women at Work have Unique Opportunities
Here’s a news flash: Women are poised to surpass men on the nation’s payrolls for the first time in American history. According to a recent report by the New York Times, four out of five jobs lost in the current U.S. recession belong to men—a consequence of the surge in layoffs within distressed, male-dominated industries, such as manufacturing and construction. This emerging workplace trend may ultimately be a momentous boon to women—shifting their power and influence, both at home and on the job. It also represents a new call to action for women—and employers.

Leadership is “Net Time” and “Net Results” not “Gross Time”
Leaders always forget the other issues apart from their professional life such as family, friends, relatives, health and other major life activities. Spiritual Fitness for Entrepreneurs
Let's face it. Life as an entrepreneur can be a challenge. Sometimes it feels like we're jugglers trying to juggle in a tornado! The over-stimulation of the daily whirlwind of activities especially during a recession creates high levels of stress and anxiety. We run ourselves ragged and pay a huge physical and emotional toll with stress related illnesses. But how many of us are aware of the price we pay spiritually?

Spiritually Affirming Business Practices
We are all familiar with the benefits of exercise to our physical health, the importance of intellectual stimulation to our mental acuity and the process of achieving emotional health through introspective therapeutic work. So how do we create spiritual affirming business practices that will support our experience as entrepreneurs? Spiritual fitness, as I have come to define it, is one's capacity to experience one's self as a spiritual being having a human experience and to live fully in both dimensions.

The Entrepreneurial Spiritual Muscle
The spiritual muscle is the energetic capacity for deep listening, attention or consciousness that exists behind our stream of consciousness mind. It is innate; we are born with it. Through it we connect to our soul, and thence to the cosmic consciousness, to the Divine, to our Source, to God. It is a "psychic muscle," if you will, that develops through use. By exercising this psychic muscle we increase our access to and experience of our Divine connection, becoming more spiritually fit.

Yet nearly half of the women surveyed say it is important. 45% of men say that having cash for emergencies is very important to their spouse, when in reality 67% of women believe it's crucial.
