Mickey Mouse and Work Boots - Memories of My Father
| |
| Being a first-born child and only daughter I have to admit I was a little bit bossy when I was small. I really looked forward to leading my brothers home from school each day. We'd have a snack and then the three of us would watch the Mouseketeers while Mother cooked in the kitchen. Don't get me wrong, my Mom was a working Mother. She purposely chose a job as a school principal's secretary so that she could be home after school (when we arrived) and also during the summer.
Before the ending of that popular song- you know it - M-I-C- (see you real soon) K-E-Y... (why? Because we love you)... you could hear the back screen door slam. In walked my Dad. He was home.
It was an unspoken rule that turned into a ritual that when Dad walked in the door, everyone stopped what they were doing, and ran to greet and hug him. You see, my Dad dug d |

Marriage
| |
| As the 10th of 12 children, my older brothers and sisters obviously got here many years before I did. Two of my older brothers and two of my older sisters had failed marriages. Since I was at the bottom of the production chain, my younger brother and I had the benefit of what my mother had observed and taught us. She pointed out that we should never date a girl more than once or twice if we discovered we would be unwilling to have her as the mother of our children and be unwilling to take her wherever we were and introduce her with pride to anyone. I listened intently to what my mother had to say. I chose carefully. |

Have You Appreciated Someone Today? One Powerful Secret for Team Motivation

| I invested some time with Mother recently and drove her to the hospital to visit with her sick sister-in-law, my aunt. While I was standing in the doorway, a nurse came by and introduced herself as Ruth and said “hello” to us and said “hello” to my aunt. This put a smile on my aunt’s face. The nurse then introduced me to the other nurses working at the nurses’ station. She let me know that these nurses are hard working and good at their jobs. |

Want to Start a Home Based Business?
| |
| I have been a mother working from home for about 7 years now and have thrived in the flexibility that this working lifestyle has given me. I spent years wondering where my children were and what they were doing.
Now I work when I need to, how I want to. I no longer trade time for money like I use to when I was working weeks of long hours. The life style I have just would not be possible working in those traditional parameters.
It allows me to run my children around town, attend various school activities and still have an adult life of working and earning a very decent wage!!
The web has opened up the world to Online marketing opportunities, its no longer constrained by physical locations and slow communications. |

Square Peg Round Hole
| |
| In his wonderful book The Element, Sir Ken Robinson tells a story that I’m sure many people can relate to. In it, a young girl named Gillian is having trouble concentrating at school. The school – suspecting a learning disability – asks her mother to take 8-year-old Gillian to see a psychiatrist for evaluation. After hearing from the girl’s mother how the girl is always disturbing her classmates, her homework is sloppy and always late – the doctor asks to speak with Gillian alone. Before escorting the mother outside for a private conference, the doctor turns on the radio in the room to occupy Gillian.
As soon as the music began to play, the girl was on her feet. From outside the room, Gillian’s mother observed for a few minutes as she moved beautifully to the music, dancing around the room, lost in a childlike trance. |
