Ahas!
| |
| I love those rare and often serendipitous moments when I see something in a new way for the first time. I wish that I could plan them but I guess, by definition, an AHA! has to come to us. Perhaps the most we can do to facilitate them is to remain open and not ignore them when they are jumping up and down waving their arms in front of us to pay attention. |

How to Identify The Real Leaders Out There Among Us
| |
| How can you know a real leader when you see one? What do real leaders do that define them as leaders? Many people may consider themselves leaders, but in reality do not demonstrate principles of leadership and are not leaders at all. In today’s world there are many imposters posing as leaders.
In order to assist you in identifying leaders in your company or organization, I have selected seven (7) actions that I believe real leaders take that define them as “real leaders.” Those seven (7) actions are: |

Growing Other Leaders
| |
| The best leaders understand and accept their mandate to grow other leaders. The reason there are not more excellent leaders in this world is that there are not enough good mentors. This article discusses growing leaders and the concept of mentorship. |

Big Business or Small?
| |
| I’ve been happy as a poker player with pocket aces with my little workshop business, helping people, getting kudos and getting paid. I find people to invite to the workshop by going to networking groups where I’ll see old friends and make new ones. I eat breakfast, lunch and dinner for a living. I hold my workshops in the den at my house |

Leaders: Get Off Your Butts
| |
| My favorite saying is "The highest calling for any leader is to grow other leaders." Observation: There are too few outstanding leaders in this world because of the lack of great mentors to bring them along. Top level leaders are so consumed with trying to optimize performance in a frantic and messy world, that often they do not take the time out to nurture the next generation of leaders. I believe that is a huge mistake.

Focus on the WIIFT for a Powerful Presentation
| |
| A while back I had the opportunity to work for nearly two days with the best-of-the-best sales pros in a client company when I presented a workshop titled “Powerful Presentations.” A key idea in this workshop was that our sales presentations are more powerful when we focus on WIIFT – What’s in it for Them – from the open of the presentation through the close.

Sneaking Up On Commitment
| |
| Forever can be a long time. For many of us the idea of
committing to something forever can be very intimidating and
bring us a lot of fear in recognition of our past failures.
This was certainly the case when my wife and I first met.
One of my fondest early recollections of Ann was during a
workshop on Prosperity Money when we first met. One of our
assignments was to list 100 things we wanted to do, be or
have. Ann was sharing with one of the participants in the
hallway prior to our workshop. I overheard her say that on
her list were two items: a committed relationship and a
romantic relationship. As a way to enter into the
conversation I asked her why those were 2 separate items.
Wasn't it possible to have a committed and a romantic
relationship as one? |

Flying Without a Net
| |
| When I decided to sell my business management company and teach the Financial Stress Reductionâ Workshop full-time, it was really scary. I didn’t know if I would be able to sell enough workshops, on an on-going basis, to make a living. With the bookkeeping service, my clients paid me a fee every month. This created a regular income stream. With the workshop business, however, a customer paid once for the workshop and then was gone. I had to generate new customers every eight weeks. I didn’t know if I could do that. I was terrified. |

Being Consistent and predictable: One of the most important leadership characteristics
| |
| Whatever management or leadership training you take, whether it is a management workshop, a leadership webinar or books on management or supervision, you must own how important predictability is for a leader and practice st to be as consistent as you can possibly be.
There are three main reasons. First, we live in unpredictable and uncertain times. When people go to work they want as much certainty as they can get. Second, leaders must be disciplined and if you can’t control your own behavior and attitude, how can you expect the people that follow you to control theirs? Third, and the reason that will probably cause you to make a change if you are not currently consistent, being inconsistent wastes your employees valuable time. They spend time worry about which way you are going to jump and this is time they could be working. |
