China’s Shares May Be the First to Turn Upward!
| |
| China has been the "least beaten up" of the countries throughout the global slow down. So this, coupled with a huge amount of government spending there, could push the Shanghai index and the ETF (symbol: CAF) higher. |

The Hidden World of Bartering
| |
| I remember vividly my first experience scuba diving. As soon as I went
beneath the surface of the sea, I realized that an entire world existed
every day within my own world-and I wasn't at all aware of it. Whether
or not I knew of it, that world was still alive and happening.

Walt Disney World
| |
| In the Frommer’s Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World, author Bob Sehlinger says, “When it comes to Walt Disney World you either need a plan or a frontal lobotomy.” Indeed, as huge a complex of theme parks as Walt Disney World is, without adequate research, there are undoubtedly many things that would never be noticed or uncovered by the public. From what goes on in the ‘backstage’ areas of Walt Disney World to the number of ghosts that ‘live’ in the Haunted Mansion, Walt Disney World trivia is the subject of much eager discussion. |

4.1 Diversification trends at the regional level: Economic Report on Africa 2007
| |
| Figure 4.1 shows three different measures of diversification for African economies as
a whole (see Ben Hammouda et al. (2006a) for detailed definition of the indices of diversification). Three concise comments on the general trend of Africa’s diversification
experience can be made. |

4.2 Diversification regimes in Africa: Economic Report on Africa 2007
| |
| Analysing the various diversification indices and the structure of the top ten export
commodities for selected countries over the last two decades and a half provides
some useful insights which can be used to define diversification regimes that characterize
Africa. Five diversification regimes can be identified from Africa’s experience
(see Ben Hammouda et al. 2006b). These regimes should not be viewed as steps
or as a continuum that a country must follow as it moves from a concentrated to
a diversified economy. Rather, the regimes are a result of the policy actions that a
country has set in place over a given period of time. The particular regime that a
country falls into is likely to be the result of a mix among the various diversification
determinants. |

Weighing in on Health Care Reform
| |
| There is no question that health care reform is needed. We have the most expensive system, in total cost and per-capita, in the world. One would expect, twice the results. Yet, we are well behind the rest of the industrialized world in those indices most used to measure the health of a population.
The question is what type of reform do we need. The factors leading to our high costs are complex. the factors leading to our lagging in health indices are even more complex. Quick, politically expedient fixes are not what we need. Debate driven and financed by those interest groups with the most to loose by reform is not what we need. Shaping opinion by spreading fear and mis-information is not what we need.
We need to take a careful, analytic approach, making use of those experts who study and compare systems around the world. |

Characteristics of Third Generation Leadership & 3G Leaders
| |
| This is a world in which people are almost addicted to learning new things – especially if they can help them with social networking. This is a world in which people are very aware of the vast amount of information available and in which they have to make daily decisions as to what information to accept and what to reject. This is a world in which, fundamentalists of any form aside, people are increasingly willing to grapple with complexity and seek new answers to age-old issues. This is a world in which we need 3G Leaders. |

The world we share
| |
| We live in three worlds; the world in here, the world out there, and the world we share. In here our views are just that, out there are other people’s views. In the world we share are the views we agree on. In any successful relationship the world we share is the critical one.
I trust that today and every day you will resolve to build more of the world we share and be less precious about the world in here or the world out there. |

Are Your Beliefs Holding You Back?
| |
| The beliefs I hold underlie everything I do and say and how I perceive the world around us. My beliefs combine to construct a complex web of interconnected concepts that forms my model of the world. It is literally how I see and experience the world. I have “concepts about the world and a concept is merely a belief and a belief is merely an opinion I have a particular loyalty to.* |
