What is A Nichepreneur™?
If you’re going to thrive as a professional in our ever-changing environment, you need to adapt to the changing parameters. It’s no good holding onto out-moded thinking and yesterday’s methodology. The day of the behemoth corporations that could convince the public that they were all things to all people are over: like the mastadons, yesterday’s stagnant organizations are laying down to be absorbed into the quagmire. Enter, the NichePreneur™.

Why Do People Find Email So Difficult To Deal With?
I noticed two articles in the NY Times this morning that pressed my email theme button. The first was actually from yesterday - Lost in E-Mail, Tech Firms Face Self-Made Beast. The second was In the E-Mail Relay, Not Every Handoff Is Smooth.

The Attitude of Gratitude
The other day a client sat nervously in my office, dismissing her "silly" feelings preemptively with a wave of her hand. “Please explain,” I encouraged. She pulled a tissue out of the box and dabbed her eyes, looking at the carpet as she spoke. “I’ve had a lot of health problems recently. I don’t want to be a complainer but it’s been a push just to get up in the morning and go to work. Yesterday, my boss just left a stack of work on my desk and walked away without a word.” With that, her voice broke.

Sound As A Pound....For Now!
Yesterday, the Bank of England vote unanimously to leave the size of its asset purchase plan unchanged at 175 billion pounds and voted to leave interest rates unchanged at 0.5%. This is seemingly good news for the Pound in the near-term, as the currency markets are reflecting this morning with the British pound up vs. other currencies. But what is the outlook for GBP going forward?

A story of inspiration and action for marketers
I love the John Jackson wakeup call in the morning in our business. Some of us need coffee, tea whatever it takes to perk you up first thing in the morning. For me it is the cup of leadership .This morning was no different except we all witnessed John tell a very heart rendering story about his dad who passed away 11 years ago and he became very emotional at one point as he fondly remembered his dad. There were many lessons to be learned from this story and I will share a few of the highlight moments of that call with you.

How To Go From Down To Up, Fast
Yesterday was not one of my better days. Despite starting off the year full of excitement and hope, yesterday I was really down in the dumps. For starters, I caught a cold and didn’t have much energy. Everything on my to do list looked like moving a mountain and I just wasn’t up to doing a thing. That useless feeling somehow went from being a momentary feeling to escalating into the entire year being a mess.

The Philosopher
It was a heavy and wet morning when the trees let out quiet sighs, aching from the fresh weight of the evening’s frost. A man sat in his study watching exhausted leaves tremble and fall, spilling light with each pirouette. It was a morning not unlike any other for this man. He rose at seven, as was his custom. Washed his face with cool water and prepared for the morning’s conversation and walk with Mr. Wellington.

Four Minutes in the Morning
Amy and I created a tradition about a decade ago we call “four minutes in the morning.” We try to – fully clothed – spend four minutes together every morning 100% focused on each other.

Did someone ruin Foursquare for me yesterday?
I was at lunch at Japango with some of my Foundry Group gang yesterday. When I went to my house in Alaska last July, I took a Mac with me but left my PC at home. Ross bet me $100 that before the month was out I’d beg him to fedex my PC to me. He lost and I decided to use my winnings to take whoever was around yesterday out to lunch.

A Message To Graduating MBA’s
I gave a talk yesterday to a class of soon-to-graduate MBA students at CU Boulder yesterday. It was their last class in the course that had been filled with a bunch of interesting VC and entrepreneurial guest lecturers. We did Q&A for several hours, covered a lot of ground, and had plenty of fun (or at least I did.) At the end, the professor asked if I had any final words of advice to the room full of MBA’s who were about to graduate. I thought for a moment and then said an abbreviated version of the following.
